Jared DePasquale's score for Focus on the Family Radio Theatre's Silas Marner is finally available. You can now get the soundtrack on Apple Music and Amazon Music.

DePasquale shared some insights on the making of the score with us. Here's what he had to say about it:

"The score to Silas Marner was composed between the summer and fall of 2000.  The score's budget was small, so I used a very small string section, flute doubling on alto flute, oboe doubling on English horn, clarinet doubling on bass clarinet, bassoon, and 2 French Horns.  The rest was produced using my samples.  The score was recorded at Salt Mine Studios and DePasquale Enterprises in Nashville, Tennessee, and was mixed by Adam DePasquale at DePasquale Enterprises."

He continued, "The score to Silas Marner was the second audio drama I composed for Focus on the Family, and it would be this experience that really established a wonderful working relationship with Dave Arnold. If my first score to The Secret Garden was a sort of 'test', Silas Marner became the score where I knew that Dave believed in me and I felt a lot more confidence in myself.

Before I started to compose anything on this score, Dave had me listen to Ralph Vaughan Wlliams' The Lark Ascending as a point of inspiration. I instantly fell in love with the piece, and The Lark Ascending has become one of the most influential pieces of music in my career. Dave has such an incredible ear for what the tone of the score should be, and I'm so grateful for his input before I start writing a note of music."

"I still can't believe how young I was when I composed this score," says DePasquale, "and that such an enormous organization like Focus on the Family would award such a large job to such a young composer, but I'm able to look back at the score to Silas Marner and hear definitive points of growth in my writing.  Writing music for a living isn't a sprint.  It's a ridiculously long marathon where you try to improve upon your craft just a little bit everyday.  Silas Marner represents that very ideology of mine, and I'm proud of the work I accomplished at such a young age," he concluded.

With this release, there's only one of Jared's scores for Focus on the Family Radio Theatre left to be released to the public. That would be The Secret Garden. That score will be out later this year.

You can find many of Jared's other scores on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music.
